Well I can go back slightly on what I said about moving sucking, I don’t so much mind the moving side of things, it was the leaving all my friends in Lincoln that sucked so …

A House, Facebook, and Mythbuntu

Submitted by Adam Boardman on Wednesday, 8 April 2009No Comment

facebookThe time came and Fordy moved out of the house leaving 2 rooms free upstairs, obviously I had to take advantage of this fact so got busy resorting the house here. I’ve decided to move my studio to the back bedroom rather than have it taking up all the space in the living room. This worked well but was just not practical when it came to watching anything, or eating tea. The 2nd small room upstairs has been turned into a little art studio for Claire so she has her own space, and also keeps all her stuff in one place with mine for when we move.

I never remember just how much wiring a small project studio needs, there’s so much to finish and so much to get done. I have all the main stuff running for the time being, but all the little bits are falling into place. I don’t really want to get too far into sorting things as I want to build a custom console for my gear, we shall see if that happens now or later :)

In other news I’ve moved across from Facebook to Twitter, and started to use Flickr again. I just got so fed up with Facebook constantly changing the way things worked, and messing with layouts every other month. Why do you need to fix something that’s not broken? I mean the layout was perfectly fine as it was, poeple were just getting used to it and what do they do…they change it, who does that, I mean come on guys give us a chance to get used to something and use it for more than a few months.

I could go on for hours about the ins and outs of Facebook and the stupidity of the choices they have made but instead, I let it go to the back burner and moved across to Twitter. Now I’ve stopped myself before moving across to this due to the hype, and the fact it’s just status updates, however I have found that being able to just post your status at any given time during the day, or night is more engaging than Facebook. While I moved away from Facebook I suddenly though I’ve lost the ability to share photos, which is when I remembered about Flickr, and the fact that I had an account on that which has now been reactivated and slowly being sorted, more on that another time….

In other news Claire’s iMac G5 which was running the house server using OSX 10.5 Server has died on us, the graphics RAM has finaly given up :( I am in the process of rebuilding one of my old server machines with a version of Ubuntu designed for TV use called Mythbuntu. This distro of Unbuntu is taylored for use on TV’s as a HTPC and is perfect for me in the studio as I wanted a TV and had a dual DVB tuner card sitting around doing nothing. This system also has a large amount of NFS shares setup which are automounted on my MacBook Pro, for media sharing, backup, and general file sharing around the house network. Eventually this system will have a SATA RAID array in it and will store all my sample libraries, etc but for now music, and videos will do. I will also be hosting my development server on this box.

Well that will do for now I think, more to come on many different topics.
